Dwelling

I didn’t really understand exactly what Heidegger was getting at in the readings but I did find a connection to one of his major concepts. In reading about the dwelling, I couldn’t help but notice how Heidegger describes man as dwellers which can be related to dasein. Man is always situated in a place, interacting with something, or constructing. Architects construct buildings for activities and/or work but man does not live in the same place as such. Heidegger states that to be a human being means to be on the earth as a mortal. Being a mortal on the earth, as Heidegger states, means to dwell. Mortality is connected to being on the earth, until death. Therefore, man is a dweller. Dasein is founded on the experience of humans and the interconnectedness of being. Man as dwellers connect to just more than building. The interactions and memories made while on earth create the meaning in our lives. The buildings we reside in that create our peace of mind are more than just buildings. They give meaning to us which establishes a connection between man and building.
