Typology

Typology is how architecture is defined. It’s taking the the physical characteristics of thne structure and using it to classify buildings. The ideology behind typology can be best explain by platos allegory of the cave which explains how things are percieved. When the man was a prisoner in the cave he was hidden from the outside he was sheltered from the outside world and he forgot about the conventional world. Like how he frequents the word book even though what he describing as a “book” isnt actually a book. These descriptions are based on gut instinct rather than established conventional set boundaries. Both Rossi and Vidler exempilfy this idea of classifications. In both works you see how the authors define and classify based on certain specific features rather than the entire structure i.e. roofs and windows]. Rossi’s work infact is soley about a styule from 1970s Italy.
