8/31 To use a Formula or Not

Le Corbusier had a very clear idea of what the strict formula should be when approaching urban planning while Gropius and Mies were quite the opposite, believing in an approach based on the circumstances. They all strongly believed in their ideas and I was easily swayed by both because they created such a clear outline for their approach. However, Gropius’ Bauhaus ideology made more sense to me in the end and related to how we are taught today. Learning one cure all formula is too lofty for all of the different variables and circumstances. Through their writing, I also connected more with the architects as people as opposed to just connecting them to bland terms and ideas. Especially for Mies, his dedication to the Bauhaus and for the ultimate sass was very humanizing and “savage.”
